Aleksandr Shymko
Composer in residence 2018-2019
At the initiative of the music director and principal conductor, People’s Artist of Ukraine Hobart Earle, for the 2018/19 concert season, Aleksandr Shymko became the “composer in the residence”. Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra performed 4 works of the Ukrainian composer: Symphony No. 2 “Ocean of Life” (2009), Alcion (world premiere) (2013-2014), Concert No. 1 for Piano and Orchestra (2002), Concert for Violin and Orchestra (2012).
Modern Ukrainian composer and pianist. Born on August 4, 1977 in Borschev (Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine). In 1997 graduated from Chernivtsi College of Music named after S. Vorobkevich from piano class. In 2002 graduated from the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after P. I. Tchaikovsky and received a Master of Music Arts degree (major – composition).
The author of over a hundred works, among which in particular: five symphonies (2006, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014), five concerts: two piano concerts (2002, 2009), a violin concerto (2012), a double concerto for violin and viola (2014), Concerto for cello (2016), cantata and oratorios, works for chamber orchestra and chamber ensembles. The author of music to: 25 performances, 2 ballets, music for films, etc.
